Today, January 6th 2021 is a day that will be significant a scar in the continuous history of America. White supremacy and racism are the original sins of America and it is an active and rabid dog. It will be defeated scratching and clawing. We’re in this mess because the original sins have never been resolved, just pushed to the side for the next generation to deal with. Reconstruction after the Civil War was cut short by Jim Crow. Civil Rights in the 60s was followed up by mass incarceration/War on Drugs and trickle down economics. Black men are being murdered at the hands of police today and the Klan is riding today.

The sentiments of the Confederacy have evolved and adapted overtime and Trump is the heir to that movement. This is America’s ugly mark underneath the shirt of democracy and the constitution. This sentiment is not going anywhere soon after Trump. It is a manifestation of evil that must be confronted head on if we ever want to be a beacon of hope. This sedition today is an act of fascism and we must be anti-fascists in order to protect the democracy.

Hitler took notes on the United States when developing their fascism. It’s long overdue that we must not flinch and finish the Reconstruction, otherwise we will devolve into fascism if we continue kicking the can down the road. Democracy is not a spectator sport.
